Tosoh’s Wastewater Heavy Metal Treatment Agent TX-55 Wins Environmental Technology Prize at 50th Annual JCIA Awards

Tokyo, Japan— Tosoh received the Environmental Technology Prize for the development of a high-performance wastewater heavy metal treatment agent, TX-55 at the 50th Annual Japan Chemical Industry Association (JCIA) Awards.

Regulations concerning the discharge of heavy metals such as cadmium, zinc, and mercury in wastewater have become increasingly stringent in line with the 2011 amendments to the Water Pollution Prevention Act, and the 2017 enforcement of the Minamata Convention. As such, the use of current conventional wastewater heavy metal treatment agents is becoming inadequate for use. Furthermore, as conventional agents emit toxic hydrogen sulfide gas during wastewater treatment, the issue of work safety has also been raised.

To combat these issues, Tosoh has developed TX-55, a new wastewater heavy metal treatment agent, which is superior in terms of heavy metal processing performance and safety. The agent has received high praise as a water pollution prevention technology to protect the environment and is increasingly being adopted by coal-fired power plants, waste incineration plants, soil remediation plants, and galvanizing plants, among others.

The Environmental Technology Prize is awarded to innovative or improved technologies which either serve to significantly reduce environmental loading and contribute to the advancement of science and technology. The company will continue its R&D efforts buoyed by the momentum of the award.
