Tosoh to Reorganize and Add Advanced Specialist System to Research and Development

Tokyo, Japan—Tosoh Corporation will reorganize its research and development (R&D) operations effective in June 2024. Its strategy is to enhance collaboration among its diverse R&D operations for heightened integration in addressing societal challenges, tapping growth markets, and adopting R&D digitization.

Additionally, to cultivate a corporate culture geared towards advanced specialized roles and to facilitate the advancement of specialized researchers, a new advanced specialist system was introduced in April 2024.

By reorganizing its R&D operations to reinforce collaboration and by fostering exceptionally talented researchers, Tosoh ensures its growth through, in part, its continued development of high-value-added products that meet society’s needs. These efforts will raise Tosoh’s corporate value and contribute to the development of a sustainable and prosperous society.

R&D Reorganization

1. Overview

  • A new, centralized Research Division will be established to oversee all research operations, including divisions, centers, laboratories, and the like, and will operate directly under Tosoh’s president. The following three specialized research centers will be established: Advanced Integration Research Center, Petrochemicals and Polymer Research Center, Functional Materials Research Center.
  • The seven current research laboratories will be consolidated into six, with the Next-Generation Materials Research Laboratory incorporated into a newly formed Advanced Materials Research Laboratory. All six laboratories will be categorized under the three newly established research centers according to each laboratory’s area of specialization.
  • The Research and Development Planning and the Materials Informatics (MI) Center will be directly under the Research Division.

2. Implementation

The R&D reorganization will commence on June 21, 2024.

Advanced Specialist System

1. Overview

  • A system to confer the title of "Fellow" upon researchers with advanced expertise and to manage their personnel status accordingly.
  • A system comprising two tiers of Executive Fellows and Research Fellows.

2. Implementation

The advanced specialist system was implemented on April 1, 2024.
