Tosoh Ceases Production and Sale of Toluene Diisocyanate

Tokyo, Japan—Tosoh Corporation is scheduled to cease producing and selling toluene diisocyanate (TDI) and TDI-related products effective April 2023. Despite the continuous implementation of measures to improve profitability, the environment surrounding this business has become increasingly severe in recent years, and there are no prospects for improvement. Consequently, Tosoh plans to cease production permanently at its Nanyo Complex of TDI and TDI-related products.

Nippon Polyurethane Industry Co., Ltd. has been producing TDI and TDI-related products—including monomeric TDI and TDI derivatives such as trimmers, adhesives, and thermosetting resins—at its plant located in Tosoh’s Nanyo Complex since 1962. In October 2014, Nippon Polyurethane Industry merged with Tosoh, and TDI production shifted to Tosoh’s management that same year. The current annual production is 25,000 tons.
