Tokyo, Japan—Tosoh Logistics Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tosoh Corporation (Headquarters: Shunan City, Yamaguchi Prefecture), unveiled a new ethylene carrier, the "Kayoh," on August 17, 2023. Ethylene is highly flammable with a low flash point, necessitating extensive safety precautions. The vessel was engineered in response to an aging fleet of ships to ensure safe and stable transport.
The vessel is one of the few specialized ships in Japan capable of transporting ethylene gas as a liquid, cooled to as low as minus 103 degrees Celsius. It is equipped with live cameras for recording and storing images during transport, allowing for comprehensive monitoring of the entire vessel. Additionally, satellite broadcast reception facilities and Internet access were installed to improve crew living conditions. Furthermore, the increased transport capacity over existing vessels is expected to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
The Tosoh Group aims to meet evolving and diversified logistics needs and promote operations that address labor shortages and environmental issues while achieving logistics that balance productivity, safety, and sustainability.
