Tosoh Participates in Tree Planting as Part of Joint Woody Biomass Production Project

Shunan City, Japan—Shunan City, Yamaguchi Prefecture (Mayor: Ritsuko Fujii), Idemitsu Kosan Corporation (Representative Director & Chief Executive Officer: Shunichi Kito), Tosoh Corporation (President: Mamoru Kuwada), Tokuyama Corporation (President: Hiroshi Yokota), and Marubeni Corporation (President: Masumi Kakinoki) jointly undertook the planting of fast-growing species of trees in Mukaidake, in the Heta area of Shunan City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. The planting took place in accordance with the agreement reached on September 1, 2022, concerning a joint proof-of-concept project for producing woody biomass materials.

Based on the Conclusion of a Partnership Agreement on the Utilization of Woody Biomass Materials and Forest Management signed by the aforementioned parties on December 15, 2021, this proof-of-concept project will promote forest resources and woody biomass production for local consumption. Shunan City initiated the project by establishing a council to foster woody biomass material utilization in January 2021. This is being executed by jointly establishing a sustainable model for forest management through reforestation using fast-growing species of trees.

  • Japanese alder (0.33ha)
  • Tulip tree (0.53ha)
  • Japanese green alder (0.31ha)
  • Chinese-fir (0.45ha)
  • Eucalyptus (0.11ha)

Total land area: 2.3ha

The five parties will continue using city-owned forests to promote efforts to produce woody biomass materials.
